When is it useful

Blood pressure-related conditions during pregnancy are among the most common health issues, carrying potential risks of adverse outcomes for both the mother and the fetus or newborn. Consequently, monitoring blood pressure—particularly in expectant mothers with risk factors—is a crucial preventive measure. Blood pressure serves as an indicator of maternal-fetal well-being; distinguishing between high and low blood pressure during pregnancy is important for preventing potential complications without causing undue alarm. The term "hypertension in pregnancy" often refers to a syndrome that can develop during the second half of pregnancy, known as "gestosis." In its full clinical presentation, this condition is characterized by three main symptoms: hypertension, proteinuria, and edema (often referred to by the acronym EPH). Indeed, when fully symptomatic—meaning all three signs are present—the condition is also known as EPH gestosis.
