N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is the N-acetyl derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine. It is a key reducing agent, best known for its potent antioxidant properties. NAC boosts plasma levels of glutathione—a primary antioxidant naturally found in the body and a crucial enzyme cofactor that offers strong protection against oxidative processes. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), also known as thioctic acid, possesses unique antioxidant properties: it protects nerve fibers and cells from free-radical damage in both aqueous (cytoplasm) and lipid-based (cell membrane) cellular compartments. Furthermore, it regenerates other antioxidant molecules (vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, and vitamin E).

In Naxend®, alpha-lipoic acid is embedded in a polymer matrix that enables controlled, sustained release of the active ingredient (which would otherwise have a very short half-life). This ensures maximum, prolonged absorption, optimizes the daily dosing schedule, and allows for a lower dosage of alpha-lipoic acid compared to standard formulations.

Bromelain, an enzyme derived from pineapple stems, exerts a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effect, reducing prostaglandin levels.

When is it useful

Female pelvic pain is a highly debilitating condition that impairs women's quality of life. It is a sensation of discomfort—varying in intensity—felt in the pelvis, the anatomical structure comprising the pelvic cavity and the organs and tissues contained within it.
